THIS SECTION ALSO COVERS SOME OF THE MAJOR DETERMINANTS TO A LIVABLE AND SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
The science or practice of cultivation of the soil in the production of food and the rearing of animals
Silviculture
Silviculture is the science of the growing and tending of trees in the production of timber as a branch of the forestry industry. Ben Adamah is appropriating this word specifically to mean the production and growing of trees and other plants to produce fruit, nuts, berries and melons.
It has been decided to present this section separate. (IN PROGRESS)
BIOSPHERE
The biosphere is the narrow zone of atmosphere, earth’s crust and water’s which supports all life on the planet. Until approximately ten thousand years ago the biosphere had been happily progressing in its evolution enhancing the capacity to support life, all life including mankind on the planet. Most of the earth was covered in luxurious forests or expansive grassy plains, the latter as a result of the last glacial epoch.
The luxurious forests were the essential means employed by nature in maintaining and enhancing the capacity of the BIOSPHERE to support life on the planet. They maintained the balance of carbon in the soil and atmosphere. Most of the organic carbon in the earth’s top soil originated from forests. Also most of the carbon in most of the crust was buried by the many glacial epochs over millions of years. As a result of this the carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere became suitable for mankind to make its appearance on the planet in the tropical forests with their abundance of luscious fruits. For millions of years the fruits, nuts and berries from these forests were the ideal and only source of sustenance for mankind.
ATMOSPHERIC CARBON
The development of these forests accelerated the reduction of the carbon in the atmosphere through various biological processes and geophysical epochs on the planet. in so doing these forests created the context, that is they reduced the atmospheric level of carbon dioxide to 200 parts per million . this level was possible reached during the Miocene age around 50 million years ago. It was only at this level that it was possible for mankind to make its appearance on the planet.
In the process the forests over many hundreds of millions of years provided the initial materials and glaciation it provided most of the raw material we are now from under the earth’s surface in so doing guaranteeing our demise by increasing the co2 level, to beyond mankind’s capacity to survive on the planet
